Real Asphalt Calculator is a set of free paving calculators for homeowners, contractors and property managers. Most asphalt calculators online are a single form on a supplier’s website: length, width, thickness, one number out. Real jobs are rarely one rectangle, and people ordering material also need to know how many trucks to book and what it will cost. These tools are built to answer those questions together.
How the calculators work
Every calculator uses the same tested formula: area × compacted thickness × mix density gives the weight, which is converted to US short tons (2,000 lb). The formula and a worked example are shown on the calculator page so you can check the math yourself, and the calculation engine is covered by automated tests.
Defaults reflect common industry practice, and every one of them can be changed to match your supplier’s or contractor’s numbers:

Where prices come from
Price defaults (hot mix per ton, installed cost per square foot, sealer and millings prices) are national averages based on published 2026 price guides, and are reviewed regularly. Prices were last reviewed in September 2026. Asphalt prices move with crude oil and vary by region, so always confirm with a local plant or contractor before you order.
